About me

My Experience

I started my piano technician career apprenticeship in 1973. I was fortunate to have access to the top rebuilder in the Portland area, Delwin Fandrich, R.P.T. He taught me well. My tuning mentor, Jerry Hermans, R.P.T. gave me the tuning skills I needed. I must credit the Piano Technician's Guild for many of the excellent conferences that offered so much additional knowledge. The combination of rebuilding and tuning skills that I have gained over the years has made me a full service technician.

I enjoy my work. I work 6 days a week. I affiliate with other Craftsmen such as Refinishers who will perform their services to the level of excellence I expect for my clients.

I am the author of the "G" PIANO WORKS Repair Labor Guide, published by The Randy Potter School of Piano Technology. I am a Member of the Board of Directors for that School. The Repair Labor Guide(RLG) has become the standard for the piano industry.

My Piano Service Business

Even though I specialize in being able to make the really old pianos function properly, I do the same with modern pianos as well. I make obsolete parts for my customers and for other technicians throughout the piano community in the United States and Canada. This skill requires accuracy of a few thousandths of an inch on a consistent basis. Because of that I am sought out by many technicians throughout the world.

I have been teaching qualified apprentices on a regular basis most of my carreer. I teach them the necessary skills to do what I do. Hence, perpetuating the Craftsmanship of the Trade.
