Tuning - Rebuilding - Regulation - Repairs
It's attention to detail that counts!
Piano Repair is a specialty of mine. I am currently writing something very informative about this topic.
In the meantime give me a call and we can talk more about your specific needs
Piano Repair If the Piece is broken I fix it. If its broken due to bad design I can redesign it as well. This is an example of repair; A brass pedal on a Baldwin piano that has worn flat with a hole in it. You can take it off and replace it, or you can take it out and braze brass back into the pedal and repair it. All phases of wood working are taken into consideration. All of the tools I need, I have. If its important to repairing pianos its in my shop.
Repairing the Piano to the point where it is as good as or better than when it was new.
Has to do with evaluating the piano in its total, redesigning if necessary, making sure that parts will fit, evaluating the scaling of a piano. Scalemaster software for 25 years. Bringing it to like new or better condition. Most of the rebuilding i have done over the years have been upright pianos, nothing is better than a good american upright. I work on odd pianos like mathushek & Chickering. Chickering's offer very little wiggle room. I am able to get very creative to stay within the confines of the case shape and size. Its a very precise process that needs careful care and consideration.
Piano Remanufacturing The most expensive, this is where we go in and we take into consideration all the errors that were made in previous design. We do this to bring the piano to a better condition than when it was manufactured. Replacing soundboards, rescaling the piano. We will remanufacture and reengineer every piece of the piano with the exception of replacing the cast iron plates and the piano case itself. This ensures the piano looks the same as before but it will sound and play like a modern piano. Example: I Remanufacturing a 1867 Chickering Grand piano. It still looks like an 1867 piano but it plays and sound like a modern 2015 bechstein grand. The tone would be of the 1867 piano with a deeper fundamental tone and richer sound. The piano would play like a 2015 version of an 1867 piano. Fully serviceable and playable in a modern context.
Piano Restoration Piano Restoration is by far the most difficult. The technique is putting the piano back to what it was when it was brand new without destroying the antiquity of the piano. I do not replace anything with any modern parts. Museum grade restoration with documentation for every piece.
